Norfolk Day Trip

Having never been to Norfolk, I decided to take some mates on a road trip with me to explore the region in April. As much as I love London (and I truly do), one of its benefits is the ease with which you can escape the city and explore other regions and countries, and following several months of lockdown, I definitely needed a break from the Big Smoke.

We were extremely lucky with the weather as despite the cold, it was sunny. I left at 9am, and after picking everyone up, headed straight for the coast. Although I'd forgotten that some beaches in the UK have brown water, I couldn't have been happier to be by the sea as it brings me instant joy and we hadn't been able to travel to the coast for several months beforehand. We decided on Horsey Beach as despite the 3 hour drive from London, seals can sometimes been seen here and luckily they were plentiful when we visited. It was definitely too cold for a swim but we managed to dip our toes in and the dunes offered a great backdrop for a photoshoot.

Our next stop in Norfolk was the Broads. This is a national park located near Great Yarmouth which consists of various lakes and waterways. Although the area was nice, my favourite part was hands down being at a British pub again and having classic pub grub. The portions were massive but the food and company were good and it was great to be in the countryside once again. We didn't spend very long in the Broads so I didn't manage to explore everything it had to offer, but there were some nice trails and an abundance of wildlife, including swans and various birds.

Finally, we headed for our last stop of the day: Norwich. None of us had been before and in all honestly, on entering the city we initially were disappointed and thought that maybe we'd just drive through, but as we reached the city centre and saw the cathedral, we decided to give it a chance and explore a bit of the city. Most things were closed by the time that we arrived, however the cathedral and markets are worth a visit.

It's definitely worth visiting Norfolk, even just for a day trip, as there is plenty on offer and there will be something for everyone, from beaches, to national parks, to cities and towns.
