Proud Cabaret London

Seeing cabaret live had been on my bucket list for several years, and on 28th May 2021, I finally went to Proud Cabaret in Embankment, London with some uni friends to see what it was all about.

We really didn't know what to expect, however this was the week after venues were finally allowed to open up again after another lockdown so everyone was so excited and the atmosphere was incredible. I would definitely recommend dressing to the nines as I was surprised by how dressed up everyone was for this event.

Doors opened at 18:30 and most people arrived at this time in order to settle in and enjoy some food and drinks. Despite only paying £30 each, we had a great view of the stage and a 'free' welcome drink, and our waitress was very attentive and outgoing. It had been one of my friend's birthday the day before and she got some cake with a sparkler on top (which was delicious), and we ordered a couple of bottles of wine and shots which was only £25 each, so the whole night offered great value-for-money. Having said that, tickets are significantly cheaper on Thursdays and Fridays than on the weekend so I'd definitely recommend going on a weekday if possible. Gok Wan also happened to be directly in our eye line on the other side of the stage which offered a bit of novelty.

The acts themselves were incredible and very varied; from drag queens to strippers to sword-eaters to aerialists, they had it all. It was reminiscent of Cirque du Soleil, where everything is just so impressive and you're struck with awe for hours afterwards. Denise van Outen was the presenter for the second half and was great, however the first host (whose name I haven't been able to find anywhere) was absolutely incredible.

Overall, it was a very entertaining and memorable night and I'd strongly recommend going just for the experience.
