Winter Igloo in London

I've been wanting to dine in one of London's igloos for a couple of years now, however this year I decided to be proactive and actually organise it as a Christmas present to my family. I decided to go for the Somerset House domes as I hadn't been before and it was the first year they were running.

These igloos have a 4-6 person quota, and different meals cost different amounts. We decided to go for the three-course Sunday lunch, and I could not recommend it more. We arrived and were escorted to our own private igloo, where we had a personal waitress who made sure that we were comfortable throughout. Unexpectedly, the igloos were actually very warm as there were several heaters under the table, and we even had to turn some off and open the 'window'!

Everything on the menu sounded incredible, and I ended up going for the 'Burrata, Scorched Clementines, Radicchio, Caramelised Hazelnut, Rosemary Crumb' for Starters, the 'Roasted Breast of Norfolk Chicken, Braised Hispi Cabbage, Chicken Skin Crumble, Butternut Puree, Fondant Potato, Lemon Thyme Jus' for Mains, and the 'Kir Royale, Blackberry Compote, Gold Leaf Champagne Jelly, Champagne Foam' for dessert. My meal was delicious from start to finish, however I made sure to try some of the other meals that my family ordered too. I loved the 'Cured Beetroot Salmon, Sweet Dill Mustard Dressing, Pumpkin Seed Granola, Soda Bread, Seaweed Butter' Starter, and would without question order the 'Juicy Pork Belly, Colcannon, Glazed Whole Winter Carrots, Cider Gravy, Puffed Pork' Main next time instead of the chicken as it was one of the best pork bellies I've ever had. For dessert, each family member tried something different, with my brother having the 'Warmed Triple Chocolate Brownie, Malted Ice Cream, Dark Chocolate Sauce', my dad having the 'Popcorn Cheesecake', and my mum trying the 'Sticky Golden Syrup Pudding in a Tin, Double Cream'. Each dessert was well presented, and although all of the desserts were amazing, I couldn't fault the popcorn cheesecake and would definitely recommend it the most. The wine and coffee were also great, and the service was excellent throughout (despite a slight hiccup with the fire alarms).

Most years, Somerset house converts this area into an ice skating rink, which I've heard is always very nice (it's on my bucket list!), however this change to the domes for the pandemic was a success nonetheless. I would without a doubt recommend going to Somerset House and dining in a dome, as the setting is stunning, with a massive Christmas tree and beautiful buildings, the food is faultless, and the service is excellent. Furthermore, you can visit an exhibition before your meal or explore central London afterwards.
